Substance Use Disorders affect not only the individual with the disorder, but also their families and support systems. Due to various challenges, treatment often focuses on the individual with the disorder, as providers struggle with the demands to fit family services into their schedules. This training is designed to address some of the more common challenges families face and how providers can integrate family-based interventions into substance use treatment.

Social Worker CEUs: This training is pending approval by the National Association of Social Workers for 3.0 continuing education credits.
Chemical Dependency Professionals CEUs: This training has been approved by the RI Certification Board for 3.0 continuing education credits (The RICB is an IC&RC affiliate).
Mental Health Counselors CEUs: This training is pending approval by the RI Mental Health Counselors Association for 3.0 continuing education credits.
Objectives
- Effectively and accurately assess clinical issues presented in families with substance use disorders (i.e. co-dependency, abuse/violence, shame, abandonment) and how to change family behavior that may support substance use.
- Explain the family systems approach to counseling as it relates to working with families with substance use disorders.
- Develop appropriate strength-based treatment approaches that contribute to the family recovery process.
