The Substance Use and Mental Health Leadership Council of RI and the

Opioid Treatment Program Health Home Initiative 

 

2 hour training module that provides an overview of the phenomenon of stress, stress responses and successful strategies to manage the potential negative impact in our personal and professional lives. Participants will be taught about signs and symptoms as well as the various presentations of ‘Good Stress/ Bad Stress’ in our lives as well as in our clients. Strategies to manage stress with be explored and taught. Participants will practice and utilize the various stress reducing techniques including progressive muscle relaxation, imagery, and mindfulness techniques. Lastly, the course will cover the positive impact of good nutrition choices and exercise on stress management.

Continuing Education Credits:

Chemical Dependency Professionals CEUs: This training has been approved by the RI Certification Board for 2.0 continuing education credits (The RICB is an IC&RC affiliate).

Mental Health Counselors CEUs: This training is pending approval by the RI Mental Health Counselors Association for 2.0 continuing education credits.

Social Work CEUs: This training is pending approval by the National Association of Social Workers for 2.0 continuing education credits.

Objectives

  1. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the physiological & psychological aspects of the ‘Human Stress Response’.
  2. Identify common signs and symptoms & potential triggers to stress responses in self and in the patient populations served.
  3. Understand the underpinnings if the ‘Fight or Flight’ Response.
  4. Explore ‘Good Stress vs Bad Stress’ situation in ones’ self and in the patients and families served.
  5. Practice and utilize the various stress reducing techniques including progressive muscle relaxation, imagery, and mindfulness techniques.
  6. Gain new skills to implement stress prevention techniques.
  7. Demonstrate effective techniques for interacting with difficult individuals.
  8. Begin to include stress reduction / management strategies with patients and their families.
  9. Demonstrate techniques for interacting with difficult people.

  10. Appreciate the positive impact of good nutrition choices and exercise on stress management.
