The Opioid Treatment Program Health Home Initiative
This training will review the classes of commonly prescribed medications, such as Antipsychotics, Antidepressants, Mood Stabilizers and Stimulants. The participant will be able to identify potential side-effects and drug interactions of psychiatric medications as well as the most common acute and permanent movement disorders associated with Psychotropics. The training will discuss the impact of substance use disorders including cigarette smoking. Discussion includes client education and the importance of client adherence to treatment and the impact on client outcomes.
CEU Information:
Mental Health Counselors CEUs: This training is pending approval by the RI Mental Health Counselors Association for 2.0 continuing education credit.
Social Worker CEUs: This training is pending approval for 2.0 National Association of Social Workers continuing education credits.
Chemical Dependency Professionals CEUs: This training has been approved by the RI Certification Board for 2.0 continuing education credits (The RICB is an IC&RC affiliate).
Objectives
- State the major classes of psychiatric medications commonly prescribed in the treatment of behavioral health and substance use disorders.
- Discuss the primary indication for use of medications.
- Indicate at least one side effect of concern for each major class.
- Discuss the role of adherence to positive client outcomes.
- Identify the stages of change.
